\"AR<\/p>\n

The markets are in the north, the talent in the south, and the technology is everywhere. This is the formula that\u00a0Globant<\/a>, an Argentinian enterprise-software company, built its strategy on. And it works. Created in 2002 with $5,000 (3,800 Euros), it now employs 2,500 people, has four offices in the U.S., one in the U.K., and 20 in Latin America. Among its long lists of clients it counts some of the most innovative: From Google to Electronic Arts, LinkedIn and Zynga.<\/p>\n

The formula: 90% of the company\u2019s revenue originates comes from the north, while 80% of its technological and artistic development happens in the south. \u201cThe big markets are short on talent, while there is a lot of it in relatively small cities, in unexpected places where no one\u2019s thinking about giving them an opportunity,\u201d says Guibert Englebienne, director of business technology at the company\u2019s Buenos Aires office.<\/p>\n

The talents that interest Englebienne\u00a0 are designers and developers. He uses this combination, indispensable for innovating today, in a context of open innovation in order to avoid falling into B2B\u2019s biggest trap: gearing itself towards captive contract enterprise users (bank clients, for example), which leads companies to create less robust software.<\/p>\n

Seducing the new generation<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe new generation is more autonomous; they\u2019re as likely to produce as they are to consume. They belong to open global communities and have access to the best technology,\u201d\u00a0 Englebienne says. \u201cMost companies consider them a challenge. We tell our clients to pursue them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of my employees want to have a hand in creating,\u201d\u00a0 Englebienne says. When a client has a problem, the company creates a list for interested employees to sign up on. Several brainstorming sessions (always in English) are held, to better \u201chear the intelligence spread throughout the organization.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re in the business of fitness, of conditioning,\u201d he adds. \u201cWe allow our clients, employees and the countries we operate in to always be ready to compete in the areas that are building the future.\u201d He believes that the world is flatter, in the sense that it\u2019s more open, and that \u201cneeds are so big that we must take advantage of the innovation happening everywhere, without outsourcing being a sign of bad quality.\u201d<\/p>\n

The challenge is having access to a sufficient amount of talent to operate at a\u00a0 global level. In Argentina, like everywhere else, education is at least five years behind. Thus the company\u2019s constant training initiatives and the company\u2019s \u201cGlobant Labs,\u201d which researches futurist projects like robotics, biotech, augmented reality and gaming.<\/p>\n

Globant isn\u2019t interested in southern markets. \u201cNinety percent of the global demand for digital services come from the U.S., U.K. and Japan. We\u2019d be wasting time in other places,\u201d\u00a0 Englebienne says. \u201cThe markets that interest us are those where corruption is gone, that are built on a clear meritocracy, and where decision-making is fast.\u201d But when asked if he\u2019s considering creating an office in New York, he says, \u201cNot necessarily. The cultural component is very important for companies and for people. You need to constantly work on it. We make sure we\u2019re always close to our employees, and always\u00a0 near a plane.\u201d He says the world is flat, but the way he works implies that it\u2019s not homogenous.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

J\u2019en a rapport\u00e9 des enseignements sur les meilleures fa\u00e7ons de la rendre possible, de l'encourager, de pr\u00e9parer individus, entreprises et nations \u00e0 participer ainsi \u00e0 la construction de leur propre futur. Une aventure fascinante qui m\u2019a permis de rencontrer des gens audacieux, dot\u00e9s d\u2019une grande intelligence ou d\u2019un grand c\u0153ur. Parfois les deux ensembles. Je donne r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement conf\u00e9rences et s\u00e9minaires sur ce sujet dans certaines entreprises fran\u00e7aises de poids : Bouygues Telecom, CapGemini, L'Or\u00e9al, SFR, SNCF, entre autres ainsi que dans des forums moins prestigieux mais dans lesquels l\u2019assistance est passionn\u00e9e Convaincu que l\u2019am\u00e9lioration de nos villes et de la d\u00e9mocratie locale est un enjeu technologique et social majeur, je viens de me lancer dans une nouvelle s\u00e9rie d\u2019enqu\u00eates \u2013 un tour du monde en plusieurs \u00e9tapes nomm\u00e9 Participolis - sur les villes intelligentes ou qui s\u2019efforcent de l\u2019\u00eatre : 20 villes entre janvier 2014 et avril 2015. Je le con\u00e7ois comme une tension constante entre deux p\u00f4les d\u2019un m\u00eame probl\u00e8me : CitySmarting ou l\u2019effort pour rendre les villes plus intelligentes gr\u00e2ce, notamment aux technologies de l\u2019information et Participolis, le fait qu\u2019un meilleur futur pour nos villes ne peut \u00e9merger que de notre participation \u00e0 leur conception et \u00e0 leur gestion. De retour en Europe (2010), j\u2019ai lanc\u00e9 un tour du monde de l\u2019innovation, le projet Winch 5 -- 45 villes, 32 pays entre septembre 2011 et octobre 2012 - enti\u00e8rement consacr\u00e9 \u00e0 l'\u00e9tude des conditions \u00e9conomiques, financi\u00e8res, culturelles et sociales du d\u00e9veloppement de l'innovation. J\u2019en a rapport\u00e9 des enseignements sur les meilleures fa\u00e7ons de la rendre possible, de l'encourager, de pr\u00e9parer individus, entreprises et nations \u00e0 participer ainsi \u00e0 la construction de leur propre futur. Une aventure fascinante qui m\u2019a permis de rencontrer des gens audacieux, dot\u00e9s d\u2019une grande intelligence ou d\u2019un grand c\u0153ur. Parfois les deux ensembles. Je donne r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement conf\u00e9rences et s\u00e9minaires sur ce sujet dans certaines entreprises fran\u00e7aises de poids : Bouygues Telecom, CapGemini, L'Or\u00e9al, SFR, SNCF, entre autres ainsi que dans des forums moins prestigieux mais dans lesquels l\u2019assistance est passionn\u00e9e Convaincu que l\u2019am\u00e9lioration de nos villes et de la d\u00e9mocratie locale est un enjeu technologique et social majeur, je viens de me lancer dans une nouvelle s\u00e9rie d\u2019enqu\u00eates \u2013 un tour du monde en plusieurs \u00e9tapes nomm\u00e9 Participolis - sur les villes intelligentes ou qui s\u2019efforcent de l\u2019\u00eatre : 20 villes entre janvier 2014 et avril 2015. Je le con\u00e7ois comme une tension constante entre deux p\u00f4les d\u2019un m\u00eame probl\u00e8me : CitySmarting ou l\u2019effort pour rendre les villes plus intelligentes gr\u00e2ce, notamment aux technologies de l\u2019information et Participolis, le fait qu\u2019un meilleur futur pour nos villes ne peut \u00e9merger que de notre participation \u00e0 leur conception et \u00e0 leur gestion.
