Ollie and Anantya are two extraordinary Indonesian geeks, \u201ctechpreneurs,\u201d as they call themselves. Ollie, 28, whose real name is Aulia Halimatussadiah, is a computer-science graduate who has written a series of e-books, maintains several blogs, and helps run several communities of tech enthusiasts, investors and educators interested in digital technologies. She\u2019s also written 20 books, half of them romantic novels. Her screen name is \u201cSalsabeela.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anantya Van Bronckhorst, 32, founded\u00a0Think.Web.id<\/a>, an online agency with 50 employees. She manages four companies, among them a digital PR firm and an ad company built on Google AdWords. She tries to promote RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) adoption, and together with Ollie leads the Indonesian chapter of Girls in Tech, a global network for women in technology.<\/p>\n

Entrepreneurs, intellectuals, militants, techies: these two women are the embodiment of Archimedes\u2019 children, wagering on IT to change the world, despite difficulties.<\/p>\n

\u201cTechnology is still a barrier for women,\u201d Anantya says. With Girls in Tech, the two organize bi-monthly events, bringing in speakers (and some men), but also trying to connect with schools and universities. \u201cThe more we educate young girls, the more open they\u2019ll be to technology,\u201d Anantya says.<\/p>\n

Ollie had to ask her father\u2019s permission to quit her job to start her own business. Anantya had her family\u2019s support, but not money, to start her company. Her friends told her that men are afraid to approach her because she\u2019s in a position of power.<\/p>\n

Ollie is recently divorced. \u201cDespite my efforts to create balance between my personal and professional lives, I couldn\u2019t do it,\u201d she says. \u201cLike all Indonesian women, I was working eleven to sixteen hours a day. I made the meals. For nothing, because men\u2019s egos can\u2019t accept everything we\u2019re becoming. He wanted to be superior, which makes no sense because we started out together. My career took off after my divorce.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFemale developers are rare,\u201d Anantya says. \u201cI\u2019ve never had one apply for a job at\u00a0ThinkWeb<\/a>. It\u2019s still not perceived as well as a career in medicine or the media. But it\u2019s the path to the sexiest jobs for the near future.<\/p>\n

One of Ollie\u2019s main interests is fashion. She designs and promotes muslimah wear, a Muslim style that is both fashionable and conforming to religious norms like wearing hijabs. She sells her outfits on Salsabeelashop.com. \u201cInternet tech is really progressing fast in this area,\u201d she says. \u201cI have online and offline stores. I sell with Facebook and BlackBerry Messenger. I run contests on Twitter where we share photos of our outfits.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ollie is as concerned with advancing her community as she is her career. She helped create StartupLokal.org for people to share their experiences, and she helps the community grow with Project Eden, Indonesia\u2019s first start-up accelerator.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

J\u2019en a rapport\u00e9 des enseignements sur les meilleures fa\u00e7ons de la rendre possible, de l'encourager, de pr\u00e9parer individus, entreprises et nations \u00e0 participer ainsi \u00e0 la construction de leur propre futur. Une aventure fascinante qui m\u2019a permis de rencontrer des gens audacieux, dot\u00e9s d\u2019une grande intelligence ou d\u2019un grand c\u0153ur. Parfois les deux ensembles. Je donne r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement conf\u00e9rences et s\u00e9minaires sur ce sujet dans certaines entreprises fran\u00e7aises de poids : Bouygues Telecom, CapGemini, L'Or\u00e9al, SFR, SNCF, entre autres ainsi que dans des forums moins prestigieux mais dans lesquels l\u2019assistance est passionn\u00e9e Convaincu que l\u2019am\u00e9lioration de nos villes et de la d\u00e9mocratie locale est un enjeu technologique et social majeur, je viens de me lancer dans une nouvelle s\u00e9rie d\u2019enqu\u00eates \u2013 un tour du monde en plusieurs \u00e9tapes nomm\u00e9 Participolis - sur les villes intelligentes ou qui s\u2019efforcent de l\u2019\u00eatre : 20 villes entre janvier 2014 et avril 2015. Je le con\u00e7ois comme une tension constante entre deux p\u00f4les d\u2019un m\u00eame probl\u00e8me : CitySmarting ou l\u2019effort pour rendre les villes plus intelligentes gr\u00e2ce, notamment aux technologies de l\u2019information et Participolis, le fait qu\u2019un meilleur futur pour nos villes ne peut \u00e9merger que de notre participation \u00e0 leur conception et \u00e0 leur gestion.
