Writer\u2019s block happens, but I can\u2019t help but smile at the bitter irony of the situation: I am trying to write a column on the \u00ab Just Fucking Do It \u00bb attitude of doing things without waiting. What does it mean?<\/p>\n<p>The expression is popular among coders. When they say: &#8220;I have an idea but I don\u2019t know how to develop it&#8221;, (or when they are talking about something they are doing that will take a long time), others often answer \u2013 the acronym makes it all the more urgent \u2013 &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbandictionary.com\/define.php?term=JFDI\">JFDI<\/a>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>This is a key expression for those who want to create an application, a project, a program, a company: &#8220;JFDI&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jfdi.asia\/\">Joyful Frog Digital Incubator<\/a> is one of South-East Asia\u2019s largest incubators, located in Singapore. It chose the name to help hopefuls vying for fame and fortune understand that they only have one thing to do: \u201cJFDI.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When I used the expression while interviewing <a href=\"http:\/\/asech.cl\/nicolas-shea-2\/\">Nicol\u00e1s Shea<\/a>, the founder of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.startupchile.org\/\">Startup Chile<\/a>, on the stage of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.netexplo.org\/\">Netexplo Forum<\/a>, I was asked how one might translate it into French. I asked the question on Twitter and ended up with a <a href=\"http:\/\/francispisani.net\/2014\/03\/rt-rosselin-francispisani-putain-mais-fais-le.html\">&#8220;Putain, mais fais le!&#8221;<\/a> (&#8220;For fuck\u2019s sake, just do it!&#8221;) that the Opinion\u2019s readers and editors will forgive me for\u2026if I do something with it.<\/p>\n<p>This slang (can one say that it is vulgar?) reveals an exemplary yet common attitude among those who are a part of &#8211; and shape &#8211; the digital world (web, apps, programs, etc.).<\/p>\n<p>They build products, services and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marcprensky.com\/writing\/Prensky-SNS-01-20-04.pdf\">even their own tools<\/a> without waiting. Waiting is of no use if the idea doesn\u2019t exist yet.<\/p>\n<p>The same attitude exists among the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Maker_culture\">&#8220;makers&#8221;<\/a> who use it to build the objects they need at a lesser cost, without waiting for a large company to step in and make an expensive offer.<\/p>\n<p>The same goes for hackers who &#8220;explore the limits of the possible&#8221; and therefore expect nothing from whoever.<\/p>\n<p>The French economist Jacques Attali said &#8220;act as though you expect nothing from politics&#8221; from the State, from your leader or from your country, in a column called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.fr\/story\/85455\/debrouillez-vous-attali\">&#8220;D\u00e9brouillez-vous!&#8221;<\/a> (Handle things on your own!). It\u2019s a good start, but not the most thrilling one.<\/p>\n<p>Even Obama\u2019s \u201cYes we can,\u201d which people have been harping on about since his election (and which wasn\u2019t able to do as much as he had promised) is relatively tame.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, what if the answer was to <em>Just Fucking Do It.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Anglo-Saxons, horrified by the frog legs we sometimes eat, like to call us frogs. To show them what we are capable of without making it a question of nationality, let us take inspiration from Singapore and start the <em>Joyful Frogs<\/em> movement, with JFDI or PFL (\u201cPutain, faisons-le!\u201d, or \u201cFuck it, let\u2019s do it!\u201d) as our motto. Let\u2019s change attitudes. Je donne r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement conf\u00e9rences et s\u00e9minaires sur ce sujet dans certaines entreprises fran\u00e7aises de poids : Bouygues Telecom, CapGemini, L'Or\u00e9al, SFR, SNCF, entre autres ainsi que dans des forums moins prestigieux mais dans lesquels l\u2019assistance est passionn\u00e9e Convaincu que l\u2019am\u00e9lioration de nos villes et de la d\u00e9mocratie locale est un enjeu technologique et social majeur, je viens de me lancer dans une nouvelle s\u00e9rie d\u2019enqu\u00eates \u2013 un tour du monde en plusieurs \u00e9tapes nomm\u00e9 Participolis - sur les villes intelligentes ou qui s\u2019efforcent de l\u2019\u00eatre : 20 villes entre janvier 2014 et avril 2015. Je le con\u00e7ois comme une tension constante entre deux p\u00f4les d\u2019un m\u00eame probl\u00e8me : CitySmarting ou l\u2019effort pour rendre les villes plus intelligentes gr\u00e2ce, notamment aux technologies de l\u2019information et Participolis, le fait qu\u2019un meilleur futur pour nos villes ne peut \u00e9merger que de notre participation \u00e0 leur conception et \u00e0 leur gestion. Je donne r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement conf\u00e9rences et s\u00e9minaires sur ce sujet dans certaines entreprises fran\u00e7aises de poids : Bouygues Telecom, CapGemini, L'Or\u00e9al, SFR, SNCF, entre autres ainsi que dans des forums moins prestigieux mais dans lesquels l\u2019assistance est passionn\u00e9e Convaincu que l\u2019am\u00e9lioration de nos villes et de la d\u00e9mocratie locale est un enjeu technologique et social majeur, je viens de me lancer dans une nouvelle s\u00e9rie d\u2019enqu\u00eates \u2013 un tour du monde en plusieurs \u00e9tapes nomm\u00e9 Participolis - sur les villes intelligentes ou qui s\u2019efforcent de l\u2019\u00eatre : 20 villes entre janvier 2014 et avril 2015. Je le con\u00e7ois comme une tension constante entre deux p\u00f4les d\u2019un m\u00eame probl\u00e8me : CitySmarting ou l\u2019effort pour rendre les villes plus intelligentes gr\u00e2ce, notamment aux technologies de l\u2019information et Participolis, le fait qu\u2019un meilleur futur pour nos villes ne peut \u00e9merger que de notre participation \u00e0 leur conception et \u00e0 leur gestion.
